SCHOOL’S BIG SCREEN SUMMER

WEM support a Morecambe school in planning a Movies Under The Stars event this summer.

A Morecambe school is planning a Movies Under The Stars event this summer.

West End Primary School hope that the event will attract the wider community and help to enhance the reputation of the school.

“This is about bringing the community together and offering an affordable family experience,” said headteacher, Sharon Cliff.

“Since starting at West End in January 2018 I have seen dedicated parents, amazing children and a fantastic community who come together to support each other. The school would like to use the funding to give something back to our families to show appreciation for everything that they do.

I am proud to be part of the West End community and we would like to show that money should not be the barrier to enjoying a good family night out. Hopefully, Movies Under The Stars will be a great way to start something that can be built upon,” Mrs Cliffe added.

The event has been made possible thanks to a £500 grant from West End Million’s new Community Chest fund and will buy a giant inflatable screen, projector and blower.

It is hoped that Movies Under The Stars could become a regular event and the equipment could also be used to support the wider community in sports tournaments and other events.

The first showing will be in the summer term and be advertised on the school’s website, Facebook page and in local businesses.

West End Million is a community-led organisation which has National Lottery funding to invest in improvements for residents of the West End of Morecambe. Details of how to apply for grants from its Community Chest are available at www.westendmillion.co.uk
