West End Morecambe Big Local

Laptops for Schools update

It’s always nice to catch up on the success of old projects that we have been pleased to fund, and we heard in that respect recently from Alison, Head Teacher at Sandylands School.

Back at the start of lockdown in 2020 we entered discussions with local schools to see how we might be able to assist with the learning problems raised by Covid.

We were pleased at that time to help out by providing £27,000 worth of computer resources support for local families and children struggling with online access under the study at home guidelines. You can read more about it here.

Alison contacted us recently to let us know how the resources had been used since the end of lockdown and told us:

We used them for running a level 1 and 2 course for parents on mental health. This was provided by Lancaster and Morecambe college who provide bespoke training for community groups. We also used them to provide 1 to 1 tuition for children so they could catch up with their learning.  We  employed a company (Third Space) that provide the service remotely remotely.  We also loan them to children with additional needs so they can access the full curriculum or for homework.
Thanks for the update Alison.
